More About MyHeritage.com

I mentioned before that I uploaded my autosomal DNA raw data to www.myheritage.com for FREE.  I did so after I read the terms and conditions.  Please do the same before using these sites.  By the way, you can upload your autosomal DNA raw data from FTDNA.com, Ancestry.com, 23andme.com to MyHeritage.com for FREE.

As you know, each DNA testing website has their own DNA reference samples.  So if you see on your Ancestry.com DNA results that you have Cameroon / Congo but do not see it on My Heritage.  Its OK.  That may be covered under the Nigeria percentages.  Keep in mind that the percentages are NOT exact. As the databases increase with more African DNA reference samples, the better the results will be.

There is a great article called MyHeritage DNA Releases New & Improved Ethnicity Estimate Reports Posted by Diane on FamilyTreeMagazine.com about the improvements.  It explains that the MyHeritage Chief Science Officer Yaniv Erlich called the ethnicity reporting "an appetizer." "There are excellent installments on the way, and users can prepare for a feast! We have detailed plans to increase accuracy, extend our Founder Populations project further, and improve the resolution for ethnicities of great interest to our users from highly diverse origins."

Just think, when I started testing in 2008, I would have NEVER imagined being able to find so much information and actual DNA matches from Africa!!

Seems like things are coming full circle because I started building my family tree years ago on MyHeritage.com .  Then I worked on Ancestry.com's site .  Now I can refine the research and manage all of the DNA kits on the one site.  I still love what I learned from ancestry.com of course.

I really like the video that it provided me.  If you want to see some Igbo DNA results, click here , select the link http://tinyurl.com/MyHeritage-Igbo or click on the image below.

 Understanding Beta Testing

Websites (like Wegene.com/en and Myheritage.com ) have some features are STILL in "BETA" testing. This is why it is important to READ and understand what that means. If the site or feature has the words "BETA" on it, it means they are STILL testing a feature. The info that you see may not be the final release.

Using Gedmatch.com

You can upload your autosomal DNA raw data to Gedmatch.com for FREE to find more family.  Again, please read the website's terms and conditions.  Many people that have tested at FTDNA.com , Ancestry.com , 23andme.com and/or  MyHeritage.com have uploaded there so it widens the net for you to find more family that tested at other websites.  You will need to register at Gedmatch.com and log into the account.  You will then follow the instructions on how to download your DNA raw data from the company that you tested with and upload it to Gedmatch.com .  All of the instructions are there.  If you tested several family members, you only need the ONE Gedmatch account.  You can upload all of the DNA raw data to one account.

After you upload to Gedmatch.com , it ma take a few days for it to complete the processing steps.  Check back in about 2 days.  Then follow the instructions below to see a list of your DNA matches.
