How to Check Genesis.Gedmatch.com for African Royal DNA Project Matches ~ Updated 23 Mar 2018

Hello Family!

We hope all is well.  We are hearing of the amazing discoveries.  CONGRATS!  If you have not found an African Royal DNA match of our project yet, the  step by step instructions below will help you with the search.

Here's a workable solution to help you check to see if you match any African Royal DNA Project KitsWe cannot give you a response for DNA kits that we do not manage.  Also, because there are so many of you, we cannot compare your DNA for you.   This is the quickest way to check for yourself to see if you match any of the kits we manage.

Due to some concerns that have been brought to our attention, we provide you with the following guidelines.

You MUST follow these steps prior to contacting us about the potential DNA match.  This also helps YOU to learn how too use the FREE tools.

Sadly, due to the actions of some, we have to add this info below regarding security and safety of the DNA kits that we manage and the Royals that took the test.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE DO NOT POST GEDMATCH OR GENESIS KIT NUMBERS IN ANY SOCIAL MEDIA. SHARING THE GEDMATCH OR GENESIS KIT NUMBERS IN ANY FORUM, WILL RESULTS IN PERMANENT REMOVAL FOR ALL GROUPS AND PROGRAMS.  PRIVACY AND SAFETY IS MOST IMPORTANT. THIS INCLUDES FTDNA KIT #S AND ANY KIT # THAT YOU RECEIVE REGARDING YOUR ANCESTRY AND DNA UPLOADS. POSTING EMAIL ADDRESSES AND FULL NAMES ARE NOTT ALLOWED IN ANY SOCIAL MEDIA FORUM.   When sending emails to your Gedmatch and / or Genesis matches, send one email per person.  That is their rule.  No mass emails.  If you are caught, Gedmatch may delete your data and you lose access.

  • Note 1: PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT WE CANNOT CONFIRM THE DNA MATCH FOR YOU OR EXPLAIN HOW YOU ARE RELATED.  There is no guarantee of a confirmed DNA match/ confirmed relative, even if the person appears on your match list.  If you have questions about Gedmatch or Genesis, contact Support@Gedmatch.com or Gedmatch@Gmail.com .  We do not own or manage that website.

  • Note 2: The Genesis.Gedmatch.coom website is STILL in Beta testing. I wanted clarification on the best method to understand the comparisons.  I communicated with Aaron Wells of Genesis through the Gedmatch User Group on Facebook.  I presented the following question.

SEE THE STEPS BELOW

  • Step 1.  Register at this link https://genesis.gedmatch.com/ if you have not done so. If you register and get a notice that the email you are using already exists, simply log into the link with your Gedmatch.com log in credentials. (Please read the website first before making a decision to upload your DNA Raw data)

  • Step 2.  Upload your DNA Raw Data. It may take a day or 2 for your matches to populate.

  • Step 3.  If any African Royal appears on your match list, you MUST conduct the one to one comparison. The CMs must be at least 7 and the SNPs must be at least 200 - 400 SNPs or higher, in order to send us an email about the match.

  • Step 4. Click on your Genesis kit #. You will see a list of matches. You are almost there!  If you do not see them on your list, you are not a match. Their names are distinctive and includes ethnic group(s) and they will include their ethnic groups(s).

  •  Step 5.  If you see any of the Royals’ names there, click on the letter “A” beside their name . This will allow you to do a one to one comparison.

The one to one comparison will show the chromosomes that you match on .

  •

The above image shows 4 rows of matching for Chromosome 1.  The Centimorgans (CMs) on 1 row  may show at least 7 CMS and the SNPs of 200-400 or higher.

The image below shows on row 1 that this match has 47.2 CMs and 6,993 SNPs.  That means they are a legitimate match.

  • Step 7.  Again, We will then provide you with contact Info for your DNA match if they provided it to us.  WE CANNOT CONFIRM THE DNA MATCH FOR YOU OR EXPLAIN HOW YOU ARE RELATED.  There is no guarantee of a confirmed DNA match, even if the person appears on your match list.  If you have questions about Gedmatch or Genesis, contact Support@Gedmatch.com or Gedmatch@Gmail.com .  We do not own or manage that website.

Clarification Regarding Genesis.Gedmatch.com Match Confirmation

Aaron  responded with the following:

"The basic answer is yes. But be aware that 8 cm suggests a distant cousin, and you may want to have a specific reason, such as an interest in a specific segment, before corresponding with the match."

Curtis of Gedmatch stated the following

"The simple answer is that no "match" should be confirmed until a paper trail has been found.  Your example {of 8 CMS} has little better than a 50/50 chance of being real. Even if it is real rather than a statistical coincidence,  the the relationship could be beyond paper trail distance."
